Well, Attucks was created in 1927 because city officials forced every black high school student to go there. And then when the city built the school, they didn’t build a gym. And worse, when a gym was finally built at Attucks, it was barely suitable for hosting practices, let alone games. The Attucks gym was so awful that the last time Attucks had hosted a home game prior to their championship run had been in the late 40s. Attucks would often drive across Indianapolis to play their home games at other high schools like Arsenal Tech, until the Attucks athletic director saw an opportunity. He rented out Hinkle Fieldhouse and the fans no longer had to question where their favorite team would be playing that night’s home game.

No one said Attucks was cheating when the city didn’t give them a gym. No one balked at the fact that Attucks was using its own finite resources to solve the problem. But sure, they won the championship and now they “cheated.” It’s how things go.

But there’s only one thing you can do when people become so envious of your dreams coming true that they say you cheated.

Attucks followed up their first state title with another, winning back-to-back. The Patriots won 5 more Super Bowls. The Eagles are being hailed as one of the greatest rosters ever constructed. And Kendrick Lamar continues to break records on Spotify (and find new ways to embarrass Drake, but that’s not the point).

You win again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

They can change the rules. They can block your initial path to success. They can call you whatever they want. And frankly, I hope they call you a “cheater.” Because apparently, that’s what you call someone who’s just getting their victory streak started.

On an entirely different note, my latest song \"Love 101\" came out today. You can use the Spotify link at the bottom of this email to listen to it. I hope you enjoy!

When They Call You A Cheater

When They Call You a Cheater Isn’t it funny how we only call people “cheaters” after they win? We started hearing cries of banning the “tush push” after the Eagles had a 93% success rate in 2022. The NFL abolished the “tuck rule” after Tom Brady led the Patriots to a Super Bowl in the 2001-2002 season, following the infamous call in the Divisional Round against the Raiders. Drake only sued Kendrick Lamar after “Not Like Us” became the song of the summer. Everything is fair until the wrong...
